Rhythm Is Gonna Get You - Leaf Studio 2024

High energy, incredible talent, inspiring choreography and performances that make you want to give a standing ovation? It can only mean it's the Leaf Studio end of year celebration. This year with the aptly titled 'Rhythm Is Gonna Get You', there's more crammed in than ever before and before you can say yeah you are dancing in your seat and wishing the show wouldn't end.

With the bar set high, these students from Leaf Studio work their socks off to ensure that each performance is nothing less than Broadway worthy. Leaf Studio school hone the skills of local performers alongside traditional studies, giving them opportunities to create incredible shows packed with an array of talent and skills that even professionals would feel jealous of. From the opening number with the same name, you know you are in for a non stop, high impact show that showcases some of the best performers in the local area and beyond and hinted that the show would keep getting better and better.

Throughout the show you are shown a true blend of singing, dancing, musical theatre, and technical ensemble pieces that bring students from Year 9 to Year 13 together in celebration. Within Act 1 you are thrown into the world of Disney with a particularly brilliant Dick Van Dyke medley that had me exhausted just watching them from my seat. I loved how the groups weaved in together and played these brilliant character roles. Whilst the juxtaposition of a beautiful dance number followed and gave you a moment to catch your breath before being thrown into another high energy number. Act 1 was truly the act of the vocal standouts for me, with a rendition of 'Don't Rain on My Parade' by 8 incredible women that will definitely be the West End's future leading ladies.

Act 2 is just as fast paced with some incredible sections including Beetlejuice (a personal musical favourite of mine) which included brilliant characterisation, incredible songs, and tap dancing dance breaks. It left me with a huge grin on my face at the sheer talent I was watching. Whilst it was also met with the high energy rendition of Kinky Boots, showcasing a Lola that I can definitely see huge things for in the future, and plenty of heels, humour, and most importantly the look that everyone on stage was having the best time ever.

Whilst each student on stage is only at the start of their professional journey, it's clear to see that each student has a huge career ahead of them. With bucketloads of charisma, charm, energy, and professionalism these students were well deserving of the standing ovation they received. Rhythm is gonna get you? I think the audience dancing out of the theatre could affirm that statement! Bravo Leaf, you're all superstars and deserved every whoop, cheer, and celebration of the talent you all displayed on stage. Now let's bring on 2025!
